In Ballroom dancing, the Jive is a dance style in 4/4 time that originated in the United States from African-Americans in the early 1940′s. It is a lively and uninhibited variation of the Jitterbug, a form of Swing dance.

Talented Actress/Comedienne Scored 21 Points this Week.

Challenged to tell a story through dance this week, Niecy Nash and her partner Louis Van Amstel, chose a story about a fordidden interracial romance in the 1960′s.

Niecy became tearful while speaking to Louis in rehearsal about how she couldn’t imagine not being with the person she loves because it was illegal. A true actress channeling the bittersweet emotions of falling in love with an “unacceptable” mate, Niecy ended her waltz with tears while on the dance floor. In the interview afterward with co-host Brooke Burke, Louis said he wanted to celebrate the strides of the last four decades, adding “everyone should be able to get married.”

Niecy and Louis earned kudos for their performance this week, earning 21 out of 30 points for their dance. “Dancing with the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said, “I think it’s a very important story to tell… and I’m glad you chose that story.”
